Driving a bil with utländsk plates
- If you move to Lithuania from another EU/EEA country and your bil was registered there, you have 6 months to re-register it. This period starts from the date you first use the vehicle on Lithuanian vägar. Note that there isn't a strict border control for this, so crossing the border may not be officially recorded.
- For cars registered outside the EU, you can use them in Lithuania for up to 90 days. If you strategi to stay longer, you must lista the vehicle in Lithuania within 30 days of receiving your residence permit and declaring your place of residency.
Registration of vehicle in Lithuania
To register your car in Lithuania, you need to have a residence permit, a anställda identification number (known as asmens kodas), and have declared your place of residency in Lithuania.
Requirements:
- Technical Inspection: Your vehicle must resehandling a mandatory technical inspection to ensure it meets safety and environmental standards. You can find inspection service providers here
- Compulsory Motor Third Party Liability Insurance: Obtain this insurance for your vehicle
- Certificate of Conformity: If your car was registered in a non-EU/EEA count

Standard vehicle registration plates in Lithuania bear three letters and three numbers (e.g. ABC ) in black lettering on a white background. The plates are usually of the standard EU dimensions, but can also be manufactured in the American dimensions for special import vehicles. All plates issued since also bear a blue EU identification stripe on their left-hand edge. Those issued between the restoration of Lithuanian independence in and the country's accession to the European Union in bore a similar stripe with a small Lithuanian flag in place of the flag of the European Union.

Originally the license plates had a space in the middle for stickers; the stickers were discontinued after April Plates issued since October bear the coat of arms of Lithuania between the right side of the EU stripe and the number (above the EU stripe for two-line or narrow plates).
