    Since when the park was founded by Wolfgang Kiessling and opened on 13, m2 ( ha) with parrots, it has grown to , m2 ( ha) and is home to some parrots representing species and sub-species, as well as many other animals.[1] This parrot collection is the largest in the world and makes the park one of the main references in the study and conservation of these animals worldwide.[2]

    Other records the park has set include largest dolphin show pool in the European Union, the world's largest indoor penguin exhibition and the longest shark tunnel in the European Union. The park is only the second place in the European Union to house orcas.[citation needed]
